Not alot was done this week, as some home improvements kept me from the laptop for the majority of the week. I was able to sketch out an idea for the bazaar area, drawn initially inspired by the English Market in Cork, Ireland. Using Pinterest I found a few ideas and sketched plans for the entranceway, including gate. The area above the opening I am planning on a Rose Window and possibly stain glass. I created a blockout and added it to the UE level, in order to walk around and check scale and aesthetes.
Week 6 will continue the Bazaar area, with the creation of modular pieces for the building.
This week, I created a small Portico for the entrance to the school, following a tutorial series by 'hbitproject' on YouTube, I created a Corinthian column, and then created a low poly version for it. I used the Substance Painter bake tools to bake the high poly details onto the low poly mesh. While I was in Painter, I also threw a pre-built smart material onto it.
I than created the top of the portico, and created a low poly version of smaller pillars within the top piece.
For the next week I am going to move away from the school, and create part of the Bazaar area.
This week, I created the central entrance to the school building, and fixed smaller details within the school building itself.
Week 4 will be the creation of an entrance portico for the school.
This week I worked on the models for the School building by the city walls of the street. Beginning with the block out imported into Unreal.
I wasn't very satisfied with the shape of the building, so created a new block out in Blender to start the week off. This new block out included a central courtyard, and had a tower entrance to the building.
The Exterior side of the building had pretty plain walls, with a few windows. I decided to include some visual Crenellations on the walls of the building, to give a greater importance to the building.
For the interior courtyard, I created buttresses and decorative window/door openings, inspired by the Main Quad in UCC(University College Cork).
This being Christmas week, progress was slow, and the building may change going forward.
Plan for Week Three: The continuation of the school building and grounds
I decided to create a detailed piece using Unreal Engine. This piece would be a fantasy/magic based medieval street, with a city wall, and gate house at one end, dividing further areas of a city. A magic school would also be added to one side, across from a bazaar inspired area. Housing and other buildings would be present to build up the area as needed. The main focus of this piece would be the walls, school and bazaar.
After watching Polygon Academy's video series, showing their process for an Artstation challenge, I added a Quality reference section to the PureRef scene, with some screenshots of games I hope to emulate for lighting, and atmosphere.
I decided to blog this work in hopefully weekly blogs, showing any progress made, and any changes. I begin with 2 sketches based on the idea, before choosing the lower sketch, with the off-centred gatehouse.
From there I created a rough block out in Blender, before importing it into Unreal.
From there I created the city walls, and gate house in Blender, creating a Portcullis, Gate, and Machicolations on top of the wall and gate house. After importing these into Unreal, and fixing any normal issues, and door swing obstacles, I created a block that could be inserted to unwanted Gatehouse entrances to block it off. The Gatehouses have the entrance on all four sides, for any configuration required for the entrance way.
Week 7 of the Dungeon 23 Mega Dungeon. Level 6 of the Dungeon contains trees and a swamp. Goblins and wolves roam the wooded areas while Stirge and Crocodiles hide in the swamp waiting for pray. Cliff divide the level, while a return sigil allows transport to the dungeon entrance.
Depending on actions on level 4, the level may exist in a freezing cold state, if the buried troll heart is not found.
Week 6 of the Dungeon 23 Mega Dungeon. Level 5 of the Dungeon contains trees and a swamp. Goblins and wolves roam the wooded areas while Stirge and Crocodiles hide in the swamp waiting for pray.
Depending on actions on level 4, the level may exist in a freezing cold state, if the buried troll heart is not found.
Week 5 of the Dungeon 23 Mega Dungeon. Level 4 concludes the castle motif of the dungeon and opens up into a forested area. More ruins scatter the area. Spike traps and pressure plate traps dominate the area, with some suits of armour ready to attack. A rotating fire trap can cause issues when trying to examine or unlock the larger exit doors.
The forest area is thickkk and houses some mephits and wolves with the floor exit surrounded by trees. A buried Troll heart is the cause of the previous floors icy chill and if not found will continue to floors below.
Week 4 of the Dungeon 23 challenge. Level 3 of the dungeon contains an underground dungeon from the castle on floor above. Locked doors, slippery cliffs and a deep chasm await players on this frozen ground. A blinding light blocks the path forward where creative solutions are required to prevent movement reduction
